IKFF Level I CKT

Chui Lee spent most of her childhood running after her older brother and his friends; as a result, Chui grew up a tomboy who enjoyed taking on physical challenges. She learned to play squash in her teenage years and represented her school and university in various leagues and cups. It was during this time in university when she was playing competitive sports that Chui began to take more of an interest in fitness, health and nutrition.

These interests have carried on through adulthood. Outside of full-time work, Chui has pursued recreational racket sports, outdoor activities, martial arts (Ju Jitsu and Aikido) as well as yoga and Pilates.

In the quest to find a fitness regime that is both practical and effective, Chui started a beginner’s boot camp with KDT Academy in 2005(?), training under Vince Choo. In 2007 she was introduced to the benefits of kettlebell training; this only increased her interest in physical fitness and to train other fitness enthusiasts. Chui entered the pioneer IKFF Certified Kettlebell Trainer (CKT) programme in Malaysia. Today Chui remains one of two female CKT trainers in the country. She is also currently training to be a Fizfit ProCoach (Level 1).

Vince has been involved in martial arts since 1980, starting with Shaolin Nam Pai Chuan at the famed Chin Woo school of Malaysia, then after moving to the UK, he continued his martial arts training in Shotokan karate. During this time he also explored Shorinji Kempo, and other schools of karate, including Shito-Ryu, Goju-Kai and Ishin-Ryu. During the summer breaks, he learned a little aikido but found that he missed competition which he pursued and earned a place in Karate Association of Hawaii’s team. Representing K.A.H., he competed on the A.A.U. West Coast circuit as well as regional and state level competitions earning the podium on several occassions.

Vince also worked pro-bono for the Boys and Girls Club of America in Oakland, an outreach program for underprivileged kids in California. In addition to his educational  responsibilities he founded an accredited karate program the University of San Francisco Karate Club in 1991 when he was an undergraduate there. His interest in physical education was peaked when he returned to Malaysia only to find his martial arts students were unable to keep up with the physical demands so he started to teach a separate physical conditioning program which has since been adopted and spread to East Malaysia and as far as Osaka, Japan.

Thong Weng Hon is a full time Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya with his own legal practice. He is also a firm advocate of the maxim “Sit mens sana in corpore sano (a healthy mind in a healthy body) since his youth where he began bodybuilding at age 17. An keen sportsman and body-builder, his continual quest for better fitness and overall functional strength, endurance, stamina, agility, balance and flexibility brought him to KDT Academy in 2004 where he discovered Vince Choo (IKFF Asian Director) and switched from body-building to training under Vince’s unique brand of core strength conditioning and circuit training. He continues to train there till today.

His belief and conviction in KDT Academy’s proven fitness conditioning and training methods led him to take up and be certified as Fizfit Pro Coach (level 1) by Vince. Kettlebells were later introduced and he saw how his fitness further improved with the immense benefits from this incredible workout equipment. When the opportunity presented itself, he took it and was subsequently certified as IKFF Certified Kettlebell Trainer by Steve Cotter. His passion for kettlebell training led him to start the Kettlebells Malaysia group on Facebook to promote, and share the wonders of kettlebell training in Malaysia.

Thong also believes in the eastern philosophy of yin-yang, and that hard physical training (external training) should be balanced with soft (internal training) like qi gong to rejuvenate and strengthen the body internally after expanding energy on hard physical training. He balances his external training with the soft internal arts of the xisuigong school of qi gong under the teaching and guidance of world renowned Grand Master Kao San-Lun. An avid practitioner of this genre of qi gong, Thong enjoys the best of both worlds with this mind-body-soul synthesis and balance which enables him to face and deal with the stresses and demands of modern legal practice and living while enjoying good health, free from modern day lifestyle sickness and diseases, which is fast becoming commonplace in today’s sedentary lifestyles.

In between working out in the gym, Thong indulges in some adventure racing, runs, rock-climbing and hobbyist boxing under Rodney King’s Crazy Monkey Defense programme
