IKFF Level I CKT

Gavin is one of the leading kettlebell instructors in Edinburgh and has religiously trained with kettlebells ever since he first found out about them. He has taught at workshops, group classes and at one to one level for some time now, he has a regular list of keen kettlebell devotees who train with him and stay with him because they love it!
Gavin's military background has given him the obsession of endurance training which spans over 13 years, which in turn has led to him training with kettlebells in endurance also. This way of training has led to Gavin understanding the importance of position, movement and breathing technique and has been paramount to a fast progression in his style and overall technique.

Gavin equally has training experience in Triathlon, long and short distance running, Tug o war competition, Boxing training, and also many years of Military endurance events. He's passionate, enthusiastic and a highly motivating Personal Trainer who has trained a large number of people in alternative method training and still does, Gavins style and imagination is what makes him stand out from the crowd in training and is why he is a popular choice in Kettlebell Tuition.

Kettlebells have been his main training tool for years and the hard graft he puts in to his own training reflects the way he teaches. He works hard to maintain his technique and teaching style and his fine tuned precision, observation and attention to detail are what make Gavin the Teacher of choice for kettlebell training.

Gavin teaches kettlebell tuition classes at Pure Gym in Edinburgh to all its members who wish to train in this way.

If you would like to really learn how use a kettlebell all you have to do is get in touch!

Food & drink can be “moor-ish”…. can kettle bells?…Damn right!!

Ray is Northeast Scotland’s only qualified Kettlebell teacher.  His kettlebell training adventure began in February 2008 and since getting a grip, the bell has taken charge of his training and well-being.

My training has to be effective, functional and satisfying. I’m not a professional; I’m just an ordinary guy with positive training and well-being goals.  I feel the benefits of kettlebell training and will take you along on the ride!

This horned cannonball can do it all – it just needs your dynamic input to shift it. I’m committed to exploring the options and applying kettlebell training with many applications, keeping it effective, functional and satisfying, of course!

A native of Aberdeen, Ray has trained at the Aberdeen Martial Arts Group for 8 years.  Ray is an apprentice instructor under Pat Davies and a candidate instructor under Sifu Marc McFann in the Unified Fighting Arts.  In addition Ray is a full contact stick fighter in the Dog Brothers.

Rannoch Donald once commented “Jacqui does more conditioning in a week than most of us do in a month!”   Jacqui motivates her classes by example.

My philosophy is "train smart, not hard". Most of us are training for something else; martial arts, sports, a healthier, happier life. One hard training session that incapacitates you for four days is rarely useful.
As well as attaining the CKT award I am also a physical education teacher and hold a degree in physiology, sports science and nutrition.

Derek has over 6 years experience in fitness coaching and 4 years in kettlebell training.  Having been around fitness, sport and physical challenge all my life I have found kettlebell lifting and the IKFF approach to fitness to be the most comprehensive in terms of general fitness, health, strength, functionality, mobility, longevity and fun! Now as a proud member of the IKFF team, I can add the CKT certification to my background in conventional fitness/weight training, olympic lifting, gymnastics and functional training. I have a passion for kettlebell lifting both as a training method and a sport, and aim to pass that on to my clients providing them with an effective, varied, motivational and fun training experience designed to give back exactly what they are willing to put into it. I also enjoy the chance to learn from my clients, coaches and professionals in order to maintain high standards of instruction and expertise. In collaboration with other Scottish kettlebell instructors, I am also working to promote Kettlebell Lifting as a sport and hope to compete personally in the near future.

“Kettlebell training provides a practical option for most people to train consistently and maintain fitness, core strength and flexibility. They are cost effective space saving, reasonably portable and most importantly for many a workout is not too time consuming. Used correctly kettlebells help train functional fitness and movement patterns, encouraging the whole kinetic chain to engage correctly. ”I believe they are a superb adjunct to amateur and professional athletes non-specific sports training and I have used them with a variety of athletes from boxers to rugby players and martial artists”

“Kettlebell training had me ‘gripped’ from the word go! The diverse and ballistic method adopted by this form training helps develop acceleration and deceleration important not only in the athlete but also general population groups. After researching many other forms of kettlebell training the IKFF way has the full range of your body’s capabilities in mind! The ballistic training methods helps create elastic potential within the body due to the nature of the tissues in muscles, which in turn can help you to become increasingly robust in both everyday and athletic activities. I challenge everyone to develop their fitness and athletic goals with this warrior inspired training!

I came to Kettlebells after meeting with a newly certified KB trainer (Rannoch Donald) at a Krav Maga seminar.  We both spent the weekend working hard and throwing each other around the room, but at the end of that weekend I couldn't help noticing that the KB trainer wasn't breathing anywhere near as hard as everybody else and there was a poise and balance to his movements that caught my attention.  So I spoke to him about it and went along to learn the basics.  I've had problems with my joints and my back for years, and suddenly here was a way to get fit, to stay fit and to build lasting strength and mobility.  I was hooked.

I've been training with Kettlebells for three years now, having originally learned the RKC approach.  I completed the CKT level 1 certification in March 2010.  With an interest in holistic health and fitness, I take a practical approach to my training, focussing on fitting consistent, regular workouts around a very busy schedule.  The IKFF system is outstanding for this.

I'm not currently offering training, but am putting together a programme and approach to do so, so please feel free to contact me if you're interested in learning more.

In 2001 I was overweight, de-conditioned, unhealthy and a shadow of my youth, having trained in Judo from the age of 10 into my early twenties and had trials as a youth with Crystal Palace Football Club, I was disappointed in how I had let myself go. I decided to turn my life around and in 2002 headed back to university and studied and completed a Higher National Diploma in Sports Science.

Fast forward to the present day...... Kettlebell training was introduced to me in 2008, I was addicted straight away (They are an addictive and effective tool) so my journey with the cannonball with a handle began. Over the years I have been fortunate enough to have trained with and worked alongside some of the best health and fitness experts in the industry, life is a continuous roller coaster of knowledge. Everyday I learn something new that I can apply in my own life or training or simply pass on to others.

I currently personal train clients on a 1 to 1 basis or small groups in and around Perth, I run one of the most established Fitness Training Camps on Perth, Scotland's North Inch Park (Whatever the weather) and also run weekly Kettlebell group training sessions. All my programmes are fully supported by up to date nutritional advice to enhance overall results.
