Modern Kettlebell Sport Seminar with World Champion and Record Holder Arseny Zhernakov, HMS, Russia

As an organization, the IKFF is always evolving and committed to continuous learning and ensuring the educational opportunities we offer are congruent with growing the sport and ensuring its participants are consistently provided with cutting edge information.   We have and will continue to work with various kettlebell/fitness organizations, individual leaders and other fitness/restorative methodologies to accomplish this goal.

Thus, the IKFF is excited to partner with and host Word Champion, World Record Holder and Honored Master of Sport Arseny Zhernakov for this 1.5 day seminar in Novi, MI.

As outlined above, this will include an introductory lecture on Saturday evening from 6pm to 9pm (Arseny speaks English and Russian). Arseny will discuss:

• The history and modern state of kettlebell sport and it’s unique place in not only sport, but overall fitness, wellness and lifestyle philosophy
• The physiology of kettlebell sport.  Arseny will discuss various physiological measures and attributes needed to achieve safe progressions and high level performance
• Those new to kettlebells will get an outlined structure of the unique facets of kettlebells as one the best existing tools for increasing their overall power and stamina.
• Experienced lifters in these two days will have plenty of opportunities to discuss with Arseny their current results, future goals, ranking systems, etc
• Q&A session with Arseny will follow the lecture
• The IKFF will also announce various program available for high level athletes and trainers

The lecture on Saturday evening will be followed by the seminar on Sunday (9am to 6pm).

The seminar will be hands on (plenty of time working with the k-bells) and everybody will receive customized recommendations to makes their movements and style more efficient.  Arseny will cover all the competition events – biathlon (Jerk and Snatch) and Long Cycle. He will follow a systematic and organized structure in presenting the following for all the lifts:

Movement analysis, proper alignment and kettlebell trajectory in each lift
• Various breathing patterns and how they apply to different loading, pacing etc.
• GPP (General Physical Preparedness) and assistance work for each lift and how it varies according to the individual’s goals, skills, conditioning etc.
• Personal record attempts for students (not for ranking, just for those interested in doing a test set with Arseny’s coaching/feedback)
• Q&A session with Arseny will follow

Most importantly, those attending will get individualized feedback from Arseny on their movement mechanics, alignment, breathing and applicable GPP.

Bio:

Arseny Zhernakov

Arseny was born in 02/13/1975 in Saint-Petersburg, Russia

Since 1983, he embarked on an active sport and athletic career. From 1983-1990,  he became a student of the Olympics Sport’s School in track and field.

In 1990, he entered Naval school and in 1992 the Naval academy in Saint-Petersburg.  It was here he was first introduced to kettlebells and since that time, has become a devoted knight of the sport.

Aresny’s first success was at local naval and regional competitions. In 1995 he achieved the rank of MS of Russia in Biathlon 65kg category.

In 1997 he finished the Naval academy and entered the crew of a nuclear submarine in the far north reaches of Russia. In spite of heavy climate conditions and sails, he continued to progress in the sport and in 1999 he got the rank MSIC of Russia in LC 65kg cat in National Championship.

After this success began the years of difficult intense work to jump over the abyss between MSIC and first place - the years to analyze and to find a methodical way to a great result. There were 3rd and 4th places in Russian National Championships 2000 – 49reps, 2001 – 56reps in Long Cycle in 65kg

His first personal success came in December, 2001 at the World Championships in the  Biathlon when he won the jerk - 104 reps 32kg KB in 65kg weight category.

After a short duration of time at March, 2002, Arseny got his first great success – Russian National Champion in Long Cycle 65kg – 60reps. In that historical battle he defeated multiple time world champion and record holder Aleksandr Melink (1997-2001, both Biathlon and Long Cycle)

Arseny firmly established his leadership in April, 2002 when he got his first World Champion rank in Long Cycle 65kg – 64reps.

In 2002-2005 Arseny reigned over the 65kg category in the Long Cycle. He won all the National and World Championships throughout these years. In 2003, he set a still unbeatable world record in the Long Cycle 65kg weight category – 68reps. In 2004 he hit 70 reps(last minute – 11reps) but under the odd decision of the judge, his result was reduced  to 66. In 2005 at a test competitions he set great 45reps in 5min LC32 in 65kg Cat.

As a result of great training and methodical work, in 2005 he achieved the highest sport state merit in Russia – HMS – The Honored Master of Sport. Since 1985 till 2012  there were only 11 HMS in history of KB sport  in Russia.

After reaching all possible heights in kettlebell sport, Arseny focused his efforts on science, related business pursuits and methodical work in kettlebells and developing professional endurance.

But this year he couldn’t  resist a call of platform and competitions atmosphere and returned to professional kettlebell sport!

Connected to his elite kettlebell background, Arseny is equally accomplished in other areas.  In 2004 he got his Ph.D degree in technical sciences.  He focuses on the science and start-up for R&D and production of on-line X-ray analyzers for industry. The second area – R&D and producing of original holds for climbing both for ice and rocks, producing of different rock-walls for sport and fun.

Such diversity and deep knowledge in numerous areas helps Arseny to create a unique and creative approach to kettlebell technique and programming.  He is excited to work with the IKFF in providing the best information available in the industry.
