Bumps on forearms 7 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 0
Even though my technique is not bad (for those who know me you know my technique) for the major kb lifts, i do have prominent bumps on my forearms on the radius side about 2-3 inches away from the wrist.

I do not know the composition of these bumps exactly. A friend long time ago suggested it is just skin. And they do feel like thickened skin.

I have never thought of them as a concern until recently my Krav Maga instructor tells me it looks like a hematoma. I googled hematoma and it certainly fits the description.

Do any of you have these bumps?

What do you guys think?

Thanks.
Herman.

I have from time to time gotten a bit bruised on my forearms, but nothing like you describe.

The times that I have it was usually when moving up to a heavier bell or busting out a higher rep set than I was accustomed to. And as a reference, I've been training now with the 24's and 28's.

No matter, sounds like your next move should be a visit to a doc. Good luck with it and keep us posted on things.

I have bumps similar to your description on both my arms. I think of it as your body building itself up to withstand what you are doing. Do your bumps hurt? It may not be a bad idea to have it check out by a doc just to be safe.

When I was in Russia this last summer, I really noticed most of the russian lifters had the prominet bump on their forearms just like you describe. Especally Andre Stepanov, It almost looked like a deformity. I think it is a result of the body building protection from the constant pressure of the kettlebell pressing on one spot. I'm developing the same bump. I guess you could say you are becoming a true Girevik! BTW Rachael Suh (who posted before me) you should see the same bumps on her forearms. Fairly prominet on her forearms.

I have the same bumps & I like them

As others have said, I think it's a natural reaction of the body. 16, 24, 32kg pressing the same spot over and over must have some reaction

It's actually a form of intersection syndrome (where two wrist tendons cross-over ~2-3 inches above the wrist). I have very prominent "bumps" as you call them, they are painless and are just the result of the body trying to protect itself. True intersection syndrome can be painful as it's essentially a wrist tendonitis.

If there is no pain, then no need to worry. If you press it, it tends to feel crunchy and slippery.

Just a note, if your bumps are sore, try lowering the weight then gradually increasing it. Increasing weight too fast just causes issues (either that, or your technique is bad!). You'll still get the "bumps" by taking it easy, but they'll stay pain free!

Cheers,
-Matt

Forearm Bumps are the war wounds of a serious G.S. athelete.

I think we all have them. You know a true Girvik by his/her bumps. LOL
