IKFF's big meet is almost here. Are you ready?

Training hard is great but make sure not to overdo it.

3-4 weeks prior to the meet, start lowering the training intensity and volume.

The week before getting on the platform, I would recommend to do no training whatsoever. Keep it light, let body and mind recover.

At the that point, rested and ready you will be able to do your best.

So, train hard but make sure to reduce intensity and volume as we get closer to the meet.

Good luck!

Great advice, Denis. How do you feel about doing more restorative work (i.e. yoga, qi gong, tai chi, massage, etc.), the week before the meet?

Sincere~

Hey Sincere! Thank you for the kind words.

I like yoga, qi gong, tai chi, etc. It is a great complement to GS training as flexibility is vital to high performance.

As far as jumping into yoga, etc the week before competition, I think that it is a great idea as long as the intensity and volume stays low.

So, for example, doing a light yoga session focusing on flexibility, followed by a 20 minute jog is just right. On the other hand, doing yoga poses focused on strength, may not be the best fit.

To sum up: in the week before competition, keep volume and intensity light.

Hope it helps

Following up on the volume/intensity issue I'm curious as to what others are currently doing?

We are hitting typically one 10 min. set per week, varying pace.
+ assistance work - couple of sets of heavier jerks, swings
other days bumps and some general conditioning work.

Most days this far out I'm doing one main work set getting the RPMs up, then assistance.

Anyone doing density style or ladders?
