Do anybody here is familiar with brands like Taraqui,Union,Canarias or Kraus?(Guayaki here not exist at all)
They are all yerba mate brands,my favourited btw.
Im talking about traditionally brewed yerba, not some diet suplements.
Mixture of koffeine and vitamins in yerba mate is very unique, and also very useful for any workout.
Drinking it somehow erase sense of hunger.
But it's very sweaty bussines-proper headband(and wrist bands+lots of chalk) is very needed.
In my case,at least.

I am very fond of mate.

My favorite brand is Canarias followed by one of the mellow Rosamontes, but Malta Cross is available locally and cheap, so I usually drink that.

When I find I'm drinking too much coffee, I'll switch to mate. I find mate is a direct drop in replacement for me, in that I don't get the caffiene deprivation headaches from stopping coffee drinking.

After a few weeks of mate, I can stop drinking any caffienated beverages almost painlessly.

My last gourd was knocked off my kitchen counter by one of my cats, and broke, and I haven't replaced it, so I usually make it in the coffee maker. Not quite the same as either a french press or a gourd, but it'll do in a pinch.

I don't find it to be an appetite suppressant, though. I do find it's a great afternoon pick-me-up that doesn't disturb my sleep later.

Hi,Steve
Ever tried drink in "terere"
way?
You can pour cold water in it,too,or even drop ice cube-but it takes twice more water for the effect-hence the sweat.
I'm keeping my gourd away from my cat-it's carved from Palo Santo wood.. (he is too lazy anyway)
And here's my "los tres amigos" bombillas-the middle one it's the best

Hi guys!!!

Here in argentina "el mate" is the main traditional drink. Lot of people use it to hidratate in the practiques and, of course, to social mettings.
Some people drink mate with shugar, but is considerer a sacrilege, jejejeje.
The cold version call "terere", and is ussually drinking in paraguay.
I invented my versions of terere, eg. with lemond juice or grapefruit juice.

When you come to argentina we will have mate together, or, in the states maybe with malta cross (Cruz malta one of the mosts traditional here).
I never imagined that you have that brands of mate!!!

It's kind of odd. A medditeranean/middle-middle eastern market here in mid-Michigan gets Cruz Malta from their supplier down in Detroit.

I asked about this, and apparently the owner's wife loves mate and loves that particular brand, so they carry it.

For people in the US who cannot get it locally for a reasonable price, check out ma-tea.com for excellent prices and quick shipping.

Like anything worthwhile, mate is an acquired taste.
