"Complete KB Lifting" vs "Encyclopedia"? 2 Years, 1 Month ago Karma: 0
Can anyone summarize the differences between Steve Cotter's "Complete Guide to Kettlebell Lifting" and his "Encyclopedia of Kettlebell Lifting Vol 1"?

I'm a complete beginner, and I'm looking for a good reference for the various exercises that can be done with kettlebells. Both packages seem to get excellent reviews... and obviously one is cheaper than the other, though that is not my primary concern.

The main difference is that one is primarily in book format and the other is mainly video. "Complete" is a good book to have around because you can use it as a reference at the gym or for giving others a look. The DVD with the book is just a demo of each move.
"Encyclopedia" is an in-depth look at the basic KB lifts. It's one of my favorite DVDs. Most everything I do and teach is on there.

Of the two, I use Encyclopedia a bit more but both are good.

BTW, these are about the best prices you'll find:

Good luck.

Paul,

Encyclopedia DVD is awesome. I have not reviewed the Complete DVD series yet. I am sure it is an excellent resource also. Best wishes,

Steven

For someone with no experience, the Encyclopedia is probably a better option. Seeing the lifts along with Steve's explanations will go a long way versus the Complete Guide.

On the other hand, for someone with experience, the Complete Guide is a phenominal resource. I recently purchased it for myself and LOVE it! Since my own training is now sport-based, I can get a bit rusty on some of the other lifts. Using the book I am now devoting one day each week to a random selection of lifts that I don't normally train just to keep from getting too rusty.
